Abstract
  • One of the great opportunities facing the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) in our time is the need for effective lay leaders. This project focuses upon identifying foundational traits of effective leaders so that readers will have guidance for the nurture and selection of congregational leaders for mid-size congregations. Utilizing ecclesiastical and secular literature related to leadership and a qualitative study of effective leaders in a particular congregation, the findings of this project result in a description of critical leadership traits that enable an atmosphere for Christian ministry. Those traits are as follows: friendship with God, healthy relationships, exemplary lives, heavenly minded, lavish communications, and generating additional leaders.
