Abstract
  • Imagination is a central component in engaging sermons. It is present in the text, the preacher, and the listener. This paper offers an examination of the role of imagination in the preaching ministry at Charleswood United Church in Winnipeg, Canada. It looks at the relationship imaginative preaching has with orality, narrative, and incarnation. Drawing on sermons preached in a three-year period, and the reflections of the congregation, the author offers six examples of techniques that serve to engage the imagination of the listener.
