Abstract
  • What, if any, effect do major fund campaigns have on the on-going giving pattern of local congregations? this dissertation is a study and critical analysis of the financial statistics of 74 United Presbyterian congregations in the Presbytery of Chicago between the years 1961-1981, evaluating the impact of major funding campaigns on the giving pattern of those congregations, and reflecting on the implications for mission disclosed in those results. It is concluded that major fund campaigns neither divert money from the on-going benevolent giving of the church, nor stimulate increased giving over the long term.
