Abstract
  • The Pentecostal movement is faced with the task of communicating the Biblical foundation for its primary theological distinctive -- a subsequent baptistm with the Holy Spirit accompanied by speaking in tongues. This project considers the indebtedness of Pentecostals to sacramentalists and Evangelicals who contributed to the doctrine of a Spirit baptism subsequent to regeneration. The scriptures which relate speaking in tongues are discussed from a Pentecostal perspective, although alternative interpretations are explored. An appendix of notes gives information on the theological indifference of the early Pentecostals, their roots, their foundation, their core doctrines, and their offshoots which developed new emphases.
