  • The project asked the question 'Can a preacher create contemporary sermon stories to effectively communicate biblical truth?' An eight-week sermon series was followed by a Sermon Response Questionnaires measuring communication effectiveness according to five levels (contact, comprehension, acceptance, internalization, and interaction/action) and the congregation's understanding of the intended biblical truth. Demographics, church involvement and theological views were examined. Story sermons communicated most effectively at the level of contact. Significant differences were not measurable at other levels. The congregation understood the intended biblical truth better in traditional sermons. Story sermons communicated significantly more effectively to persons with more open views.
