- Abstract
- This project was enabling the congregation of Rush Creek Christian Church to deal with the issue of violence in our society, especially as seen in the issue of nuclear weapons. The project involved a five week study on nuclear war, out of which a proposal was presented to the general board of the congregation that Rush Creek Christian Church become a 'shalom congregation'. This is a national program of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) which involves a congregation committing one year of making the issue of peace the center of their worship, study, and action. The motion to become a 'shalom congregation' failed. The project's value was in raising the moral dimension of nuclear weapons within the congregation so that the issue has remained a matter of study and worship for the church.
