Abstract
  • Using object relations, family systems, and feminist theory, the author explored the experiences and insights of women with eating problems in light of their spirituality and their involvement in religious institutions. Through three case studies the author investigated what the image of God of a woman with eating problems might look like: both her more conscious God concept and the underlying 'God representations' which are shaped primarily by her experience of her own parents as these 'object relations' are stored in her psychic structure. A pastoral approach to address self, eating, and body issues within a spiritual framework is suggested.
