Abstract
  • The complicated journey towards faith ownership is especially complex for young adults as they engage community in higher education. James Fowler's faith development theory, James Marcia's identity development theory, and Marcia Baxter Magolda's self-authorship work provided the theoretical support of the author's research. Using a grounded theory approach and a mixed methodology, the author utilized the Faith Development Scale, an open-ended questionnaire and semi-formal focus groups to discover that students must honestly engage crises and pain and the willingness to be angry while feeling the support of process-oriented relationships where spiritual partners are willing to engage spiritual disciplines with openness.
