Abstract
  • Background: Federal health record keeping began more than 100 years ago and Black people continue to die disproportionately from preventable causes. Purpose: To develop a health promotion manual for Black Baptists. Methodology: Document the health status of African Americans; complete a secondary analysis survey data set on 1,327 Black Baptists, and develop and evaluate the manual. Results: A manual that positively influences health behavioral change among Black Baptists, through an interdisciplinary faith-health approach to improve health that can be used in congregational settings. Conclusion: The venues of sermon, Sunday School, Bible study and various ministries can and will promote optimal health.
