Abstract
  • My congregation is not racially diverse. Because of their fears and differences they have only engaged the community of Benton Harbor, Michigan in nominal ways. The thesis focuses on interviews conducted, using the research method of Narrative Inquiry, with people from Union Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church and Zion Evangelical United Church of Christ. I interviewed a cross-section of both churches using Narrative Inquiry as an approach to identify similarities. My final chapter shares the story of the tensions between the two cities. I learned from the project some steps that might be taken towards reconciliation.
