- The thesis of this study is that corporate and private prayer are weakened by our practice of bombarding God with petitions which only attempt to prescribe God's response. Methods used include the examination of works discussing a foundational understanding of prayer, the analysis of prayer collections, daily journaling, interviews with those who pray, analysis of prayers drafted for corporate worship, and the assessment of this study's learning goals and of the theological dimensions uncovered. The conclusion reached is that our petitions are the initial step in prayer and that faithful prayer moves beyond our concerns to a listening to God.
