Abstract
  • The goal of the project was to describe an emerging specialty in multiple-staff ministry, in order to suggest a means of providing oversight of the pastoral care ministry in the large congregation. The method used was interviews with twenty-five ministers of pastoral care currently working on the staff of large churches, seeking: a description of the congregations employing a minister of pastoral care; the background, training, and motivation of the minister of pastoral care; a description of the pastoral care ministry within the congregation; and an indication of how oversight of pastoral care fits into the congregation's organizational structure.
