- Abstract
- Pastors are called and ordained to teach the faith entrusted to their care. Parents also have a duty to teach the faith to their children. When congregations have Christian day schools there are also teachers who have the opportunity to teach the faith to their students. While there is one faith, and we have received a pattern of sound words, unfortunately, even in the church, the teaching of pastors, parents, and teachers is not always unified, to the detriment of those who hear such dissonant voices. In order to synthesize the teaching voices in the congregation, home, and school, a method of catechesis was developed by the researcher to be used by the pastors, parents, and teachers in his ministry context. Using the Six Chief parts of the Small Catechism as a structure, the method includes an original daily lectionary with questions for use in the home (and school) and serves a two-fold purpose: 1) to synthesize around the Six Chief Parts of the Small Catechism all of the voices given by God to teach the faith; and 2) to encourage and equip parents, especially fathers, to take up the catechetical task for their children.
