This project challenges preachers to preach pastorally and prophetically during crises or when news disturbs by using tools of media literacy to assess news reports, in addition to biblical sources, in the preparation of preaching. The author identifies disturbing news in human struggles that are rooted in abuses of power that result in discrimination and neglect. She discusses the development of mass media and the influence of politics and economics on news production. She provides a homiletic for preaching in difficult circumstances that considers both the preparation of the preacher and the insights of the listeners.
