Abstract
  • The purpose of this study was to determine the essential qualities of a mentor and how they impact the life and ministry of a young, inexperienced pastor. The subjects were the pastors of churches that were visited and where conferences were attended as part of the 2001-2002 Beeson Pastor Program of Asbury Theological Seminary. The findings of this research suggest that mentoring makes an important contribution to the development of pastors. The findings were supported by the literature review, which focused on the biblical foundation for mentoring, an overview of mentoring in church history and contemporary mentoring strategies.
