- Abstract
- The project proposes to assist parents with the departure of tenth grade children to schools outside of Saudi Arabia. The researcher devised an eight week support group with two major goals in mind: 1) To help parents understand and work through grief that accompanies parent-child separation. 2) To assist parents in long distance parenting. The theological research identified major motifs of separation in both the Old and New Testaments. The study sought to construct a theology that engages the reality of separation within the context of creation and covenant. The social/psychological research focused on Bowlby's process of mourning and Bloom's stages of bereavement as applied to the parent-child relationship. Also Bridges work on 'transitions' helped to reveal the perilous passages one negotiates in life. An eight-week study based on the theological and psychological research is provided in the Appendix.
