Abstract
  • This qualitative study of conflict within a multi-hospital system's pastoral care department planned a shift of priorities so that pastoral care of patients and families would be primary and clinical pastoral education a secondary priority, with equal sharing of responsibilities between staff chaplains and educators. Interventions included creation of a new shared decision making team that was representative of clinical pastoral education staff, staff chaplains, and students. Evaluation of thesis interventions focused on assessing changes in the attitudes of staff members from early resistance to collaboration. The study concluded that shared decision making is an effective tool for collaborative change.
