Abstract
  • This project was designed to cultivate effective ministerial praxis for stimulating the consciousness in an African American church to achieve social liberation. Whereas, persons in our neighborhoods suffer a myriad of social oppressions, the church lacks in her persuasiveness to arrest such evils because oftentimes she too is caught in the deadly clutches of spiritual bondage. A seven-part sermon series, critical reflective workshops, and didactic experiences enabled members of the Christ Cathedral Baptist Church of Detroit, Michigan, to actively participate and question self ills. Results of the model were evaluated by qualitative analysis and showed participants actualizing more meaningful spirituality.
