Abstract
  • Using Luke 10:25ff as a paradigmatic text, the author explores the potential relationship of Christians and Muslims in the United States. Emphasis is given to imagination, subversion of stereo-type, immigration and the discipline of hospitality. 50 Evangelical Christians from Otter Creek Church participated in a 4 month dialog on the responsibility of Christians toward Muslims in the US. This resulted in moderate to significant changes in perceptions, attitudes and stereo-types. Involvement with the Parable of the Good Samaritan and conversations with Muslims resulted in evangelicals becoming disciples of the Jesus of Luke's gospel instead of admirers of the Jesus of American sentimentality.
