- Abstract
- The Third Testament is a quest for the hidden voices of scripture. It explores contemporary Christian scholarship regarding the Bible and women, children, and those living with physical or emotional disabilities and argues that patriarchy and ableism—in scripture and tradition—have long silenced marginal voices. Using examples from her own creative work, the author maintains that literary fiction can be a powerful tool to give voice to—and inspire—those who have historically been marginalized and ignored. The theological essay is followed by an original work of literary fiction, The Third Testament, a collection of biblical short stories, sonnets, and a novella which brings to life the hidden voices of scripture.
