Abstract

This project proposes to increase effectiveness of the deacon ministry at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church. Fifteen newly elected deacons participated in in-depth training to gain better understanding of spiritual gifts and their use in deacon ministry, attending eleven classes as a part of the project. The entire diaconate participated in a small portion of the project. The project involved academic study and research at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Hardin-Simmons University. The new deacons fully participated in the Deacon Training Class and are using their spiritual gifts in ministry at Pioneer Drive. The class is now a part of the church's annual deacon election, ordination, and training process.
