Robert Frost held religious assumptions asserted cryptically in imaginative metaphors. Extracted and interpreted, these metaphors can be incisive instruments for ministry. He used a cryptic style to conceal his religious assertions because of his embarrassment in matters of faith, his synecdochical way of coming at things, and because of his obsessive fear of criticism. His assertions were affected by his long life, by special people in his life, and by a rebellious stance he assumed toward the established church.
