Abstract
  • The leadership transition of a long-tenured senior pastor in a large, multi-staff church presents unique challenges and opportunities. The church leadership team is strengthened when a strategic transition plan is implemented that allows the senior pastor to 'leave well' and the church to progress even after his departure. The project director worked with the church leadership team to effectuate such a plan. It identified and addressed the strategic and practical issues created by the senior pastor's transition. The result of the five month project was an affirming and energizing experience for both the senior pastor and the church.
