Abstract
  • This project proposes that in the post-Enlightenment world the church has lost a clear understanding of its formative story. In its place we find a subjective, enculturated 'gospel,' clinging to the paradigms of the Second Great Awakening and lacking epistemological power to generate effective evangelism. A fresh appropriation of Wesley's understanding of evangelism provides a critical means to evaluate current choices and to generate a model of narrative catechesis. Congregations formed by this process of evangelization grow in faith and become equipped as vehicles of evangelism.
