Abstract
  • The goal of this dissertation is to determine the leadership development needs of the Eastern Star Baptist Church and, in response to those needs, develop a leadership Training Model to equip volunteers for service. Biblical models of leadership training are examined from both the Old Testament (Ex 18:19-23) and the New Testament (Eph 4:11-16). Both the negative and the positive aspects of leadership are also discussed. A survey is presented that was administered to leaders, potential leaders and past volunteers. The survey was designed to reveal areas of need for leadership training. Finally the project is evaluated to reveal insights on how to enlist and meet the needs of volunteer leaders. This work maintains that volunteer workers who have a relationship with Jesus Christ will respond and after having been trained will provide a better quality of leadership.
