Abstract

This project is designed to train volunteers at Macedonia Baptist Church to become visiting caregivers at hospitals and nursing homes. Chapter one defines the background as well as the aim of the Macedonia Baptist Church. Attention is given to the opportunities provided for the volunteers. Chapter two begins with the biblical images for social ministry as being the bedrock for visitation and care-giving. Specifically, this chapter analyzes the theological reflections and its influences on the growth and nurture of the church. Chapter three identifies the historical significance of hospitals and nursing homes. Attention is also given to the nature and structure of hospitals and nursing homes. Chapter four addresses the selection of volunteers for training in hospital visitation. An analysis of the instruments used for preparation is included. Chapter five contains an evaluation of the entire project, a personal evaluation, and an evaluation of the future of this ministry for the church.
