Abstract
  • Interest in formal worship in Protestant liturgical churches is experiencing a decline. This is true of Lutheran liturgical worship. In this project/dissertation the writer made a historical search of relevant documents and administered exams to test improvement. The writer's conclusion was that great value exists in retaining the traditional worship forms. The methodology in this project, to make traditional worship forms more meaningful to our contemporary life, was to look historically at the early development of worship and then relate the historical background of each part of communion worship to the liturgy in the Lutheran Hymnal.
