Abstract
  • The primary objective of this project is to help pastors and members of local churches better understand the value and importance of possessing a mature faith that embraces both a childlike spirit and such adult qualities as responsibility, discipline and patience, in order that we might live out, in the best and fullest way possible, our high calling as children of God and followers of Jesus Christ. Not only is the intent to help persons understand the value of possessing this kind of faith, it is to provide specifics as to how to go about doing this. To that end, this pastoral-theological essay establishes a scriptural basis for lifting up the importance of possessing a childlike spirit within the context of a mature and growing faith. A congregational assessment tool and process have been designed to help persons identify areas in the life of their church where such a spirit is alive and well and where it is not. Finally, concrete suggestions and examples are provided to enable persons and churches to embrace, set free, or bring to life for the first time, the childlike spirit to which all have access but which, for a variety of reasons, is not allowed to play a significant role in daily living.
