This project investigates the understanding and practice of pastoral leadership in American Baptist congregations, seeking to define essential qualities and helpful traits. Drawing on research in the Bible and contemporary literature, personal interviews with 10 pastors, and seven monthly meetings with a guidance group in a local congregation, the project defines an effective pastoral leader as one who demonstrates spirituality, character, vision, wisdom, and power to enable church members to grow and carry out Christian mission.
