- Abstract
- “Dignity therapy (DT) is a brief, individualized intervention to increase the sense of purpose, meaning and worth and reduce spiritual and psychological suffering.” It comprises a recorded interview which is transcribed, edited and returned to the individual, who can give it to people of their choosing. Dignity therapy has been well studied. Much of the research has been done by the developer and prolific researcher, Chochinov, and his teams. DT is beginning to come to the attention of the pastoral care/chaplaincy communities. This study examines how four community-dwelling older adults who have expressed feelings of hopelessness, loss of meaning, and despair, experience dignity therapy as a pastoral care approach.
