Abstract
  • Given the continued secularization of the American culture, it is prudent and necessary for the church to ask two questions--questions that are not new but, nevertheless, quite important: What does it mean to be a Christian in the world? and, What is the nature of the world today in which one is called to be a Christian? To get at these two questions, this dissertation looks at Karl Barth's understanding of Christian vocation, and some of the cultural forces which press up against that understanding. The dissertation project act of ministry was a seminar in which these issues were presented and discussed.
