  • Research in biblical studies and the science of measuring and predicting organizational health has developed business tools that measure customer satisfaction. Measuring the right criterion, parishioners' satisfaction, can influence the quality of ministry pastors provide. This qualitative case study describes how chaplains and congregations understand ministry and uses the business model conjointly with the biblical theology to measure parishioners' satisfaction. As a pro-active observer, the researcher coordinated two annual conferences and seventeen discussion groups to identify the elements of ministry in a military chapel setting which best defines and encourages quality ministry in three army chapels. Measuring parishioners' satisfaction provided a more meaningful assessment of the community's spiritual fitness. This project formalizes evaluations consistent with the minds of parishioners and the community.
