Abstract
  • The purpose of the project is to develop a biblical foundation for a lay program of pastoral care by making theoretical and practical applications of the motif of servanthood found in the servant songs of Isaiah. The motif of servanthood is explored by an exegetical study of the servant's identity and mission. The implications of servanthood are suggested for the ministry of the church in general and to pastoral care as one particular aspect of servanthood. They then are related more specifically by means of case studies to the role of the laity as a partner in ministry with the clergy.
