Abstract
  • This project proposes that a clinical approach to youth ministry in urban areas--providing a supportive context in which urban youth ministers can meet for mutual encouragement, training, theological reflection, and worship--will positively affect the ability of youth ministers to relate to inner-city adolescents. Five youth ministers test this thesis by committing to eight weeks of urban youth ministry with three hours of peer-group reflection each week. These sessions involve didactic seminars, case conferences, theological reflection, and spiritual formation. The research affirms the value of contextualized training for urban youth ministers when combined with peer-group reflection.
