- Abstract
- This project demonstrates that plural elder leadership was the consistent New Testament model of local church leadership. It was found among Baptists from the seventeenth through the mid-nineteenth centuries, and is experiencing renewed interest among Southern Baptists today. The project model shows how a typical Southern Baptist church may transition to plural elder leadership. It evaluates biblical and historical foundations, and then explores current Southern Baptist leadership practices. It then presents a model for developing plural elder leadership for a Baptist church.
