  • This project demonstrates that interreligious dialogue is an appropriate and viable ministry of the local church. Dialogue is appropriate because the basic theme of the Bible is God's passion for reconciliation and dialogue is a means of reconciliation. Dialogue is viable because, in terms of James Fowler's stages of faith, even people who have not developed beyond the second stage are capable of responding to dialogue in a limited way. A report on a dialogue between members of a Uniited Methodist church and a Jewish congregation shows that an adaptation of Thomas Groome's 'shared praxis' approach to religious education is effective for people in various stages of faith who are in a dialogue situation.
