- The increasing individual wealth in Serbia requires the Serbian Orthodox Church to develop new strategies for discipleship formation and fundraising. This paper considered how to form these strategies by comparing the attitudes of present-day Serbs toward money and the church with the experience of churches in North America in relationship to money and discipleship formation. This paper concluded that to have an effective impact on Serbs, new Serbian Orthodox strategies for discipleship formation and fundraising must include: avoiding the appearance of consumerism; clergy taking the initiative to contact parishioners; focusing on young people; and offering public access to church financial records.
