- Abstract
- God is at work in similar ways in certain secular and spiritual processes of human development: in secular consciousness-training through relaxation, visualization, and mental rehearsal and in spiritual exercises, specifically, meditation, contemplation, and prayer. Basic life experiences (centering, imaging, and anticipating) were defined, then discerned in world religions, secular psychology, Christian mysticism, and healing. Substantial parallels were found between certain forms of relaxation, visualization, and mental rehearsal and particular ways of doing meditation, contemplation and prayer. Therefore, one may conclude that either or both approaches can contribute significantly to self-transformation.
