Abstract
  • The work of missionaries is primarily spiritual work. In this dissertation the author surveyed and interviewed missionaries to determine what spiritual disciplines most helped them stay effective in their ministry. The results of this research point out certain spiritual disciplines which missionaries use to remain spiritually healthy-prayer, engaging Scripture, worship, fellowship, and service. Other disciplines were done to a lesser extent. There was also recognition by the missionaries that workload, busyness, one's environment, and cross-cultural living impacted the effective practice of those disciplines. The work of missionaries is significantly influenced by the condition of their spiritual health.
