Abstract
  • The theological principle undergirding this project is that the church is called to be a spiritual community. The challenge facing the church is that spiritual formation and direction by both laity and clergy seem to have been lost or forgotten in most parishes. This project researches spirituality from a biblical and theological point of view, noting various passages and writings that underscore humanity's restless search for meaning in life. The interventions conclude that spiritual awakenings can happen in the church through education classes, book studies, workshops on the spiritual disciplines, retreats, sermons, faith-sharing, alternative worship services, and other experiences.
