Abstract
  • This study results from efforts to lead chemically dependent persons on a course toward recovery. It bases its presentation on visits to and evaluations of selected treatment centers. Information is gathered through interviews with patients, staff persons at treatment centers, and United Methodist clergy in the South Georgia Conference. The study approaches chemical addiction from the disease concept and then moves toward treatment through the spiritual discipline. It defines and demonstrates this spiritual dimension. Insights from Alcoholics Anonymous, clergy, and churches also are included.
