Abstract
  • This project examines the role of preaching as one congregation attempts to define congregational identity based on its historical and current core values. The diversity that appears to be threatening unity and advancement of the postdenominational church is in fact a gift of God. This diversity, under guidance of the Holy Spirit and (in part) through the ministry of preaching, can be harnessed for great good in carrying out local church mission. The project directed a process that drafted a statement of congregational identity for approval by the congregation. Such a statement serves as a necessary preamble to adoption of a vision statement and ministry plan for the church.
