  • Shame is a core issue in every personal and interpersonal struggle and weakens identity in Christ. This phenomenological, qualitative study presents a curriculum that addresses shame and equips in contemplative prayer, scripture meditation, and soul care relationships to develop shame resilience. Twelve men and women participated in a spiritual formation group and retreat. All reported a noticeable and transformative increase in shame resiliance, and the ability to develop ongoing resilience strategies. A grounded component theory - supplementing Brown's Shame Resiliance Theory with theory of Christ's Atonement - lays a foundation for developing a transferable, biblical, and gospel-centered model of shame resilience.
