Abstract
  • Noting the high turnover rate of pastors in contemporary churches, the dissertation endeavored to produce a handbook entitled Preaching your way out of a wet paper bag: a handbook to preaching in crisis, in an effort to assist pastors in preaching, while confronting some of the most prevalent crises of the modern church. Through research, ten of the most prevalent crises encountered were identified. For each crisis, situations were analyzed to determine successful pulpit approaches that have proven beneficial to particular pastors in jeopardizing situations. This research found a strong correlation between preaching God's Word and weathering the storms of ministry. This dissertation presents a vital truth -- God has blessed the preacher with His Word as an incredible instrument to deal with the trials that surely come.
