Abstract
  • In a retreat setting this project assists codependents and adult children of dysfunctional families to discover healing and greater emotional and spiritual maturity in relationships. Large- and small-group learning experiences help retreat participants begin healing and discover self-defeating behaviors. Each participant learns that family roles and rules hinder intimacy and a 'shame-based' identity is at the core of codependence. Evaluative questionnaires completed by participants at the completion of the retreat and eight weeks later verify increased understanding of codependence, self, and relationships with others.
