Abstracto

Present indicators suggest that retirement in America increasingly will be filled with uncertainty, frequent changes, and a general de-valuing of persons. This project demonstrates that a wholistic care model of teaching and pastoral counseling positively affects one's retirement maturity index score (an indicator of one's successful retirement ability), as measured by the Johnson-Gray Retirement Profile (JGRAP). The project uses a pre-test and a post-test methodology to measure the Retirement Maturity Index (RMI) of seventy-four (74) volunteers who proceed through a retirement course. The course introduces interventions of personal counseling and seminars. The study finds significant changes in eleven (11) of the fifteen (15) major areas of retirement after these interventions. The project affirms the importance and value of the pastoral counselor in retirement preparation.
