Abstract

The project was designed as a short, intense program to train people who are already exercising a ministry to develop skills appropriate to the pastoral care of those in situations of grief following a death. As such, it formed a segment within a clinical pastoral education program in a hospital setting. A supervisory method of education was developed based upon adult learning theory. The project was able to demonstrate how a theological interpretation of human suffering can be related to the needs of grieving people as these needs have become known through psychological research studies on grief.
