Abstract
  • The author studied a process to engage churches, businesses, and residents in a collaborative effort to revitalize a community characterized by economic deprivation, apathy, and social fragmentation. The objective of this project was to begin the process of getting the congregation the author serves to engage in ministry with other congregations and organizations. As a result of this collaborative effort, a Shalom Zone and Community Development Corporation was developed. Both of these proved helpful to communities characterized by social fragmentation. The methodology employed was that of action research through the use of group meetings, questionnaires, and journaling. The findings indicated that collaboration in a community with multiple needs does not come easy, but can occur with persistent effort.
