- The author researched chaplains preparing for combat deployments and the ensuing hardships, risks and dangers of deployment in combat as it relates to suicide. The author used the qualitative phenomenological research method. He used data received from brigade chaplains and assistants, as well as data from divisional reports. The results were most if not all suicides consist of at least one if not all three factors: 1) soldier facing UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice) punishment for behavior; 2) soldier having relationship problems (marital divorce, breakup); 3) soldier having financial problems.
