Abstract
  • The purpose of the project was to lead the congregation of the Hays Creek Baptist Church (Franklinton, La) to perceive the funeral service as worship. The project began with the hypothesis that the congregation had an inadequate understanding of the purpose and function of the funeral service. The congregation demonstrated the validity of the hypothesis after completing a congregational survey. Eleven church members participated in a study of the funeral service as worship. The study involved three sermons, five teaching sessions, and two workshop classes. At the conclusion of the study, participants demonstrated a significant change in their perception of the funeral service.
